Gateway School of English (GSE) was founded in 2002. Over the past 17 years, GSE has become one of Malta's best English Language School.

GSE's Teachers

GSE's teachers are effective and affectionate communicators. Considering the friendly-family environment of the school, teachers are more than just "teaching" they also are parents, counselors and friends. All GSE's teachers are English Native Speakers.

The school's director of studies makes sure that courses are given according to the methodology that are the most appropriate for the students' needs. He also conducts one-to-one interview with students to make sure students are satisfied and also to monitor the progress in English.  

Expertise: As said just above, GSE's teachers are native speakers. They are carefully chosen, and they all hold international certifications such as CELTA & DELTA. The school regularly organizes and sponsors training for their staff to develop their English teaching skills and be up-to-date with the latest trend in ELT.

Course starts every Monday and is for all language levels.

General English in group

English 16 - 99 years old

The General English Course is available at 6 levels all year round: Beginner, Elementary, Pre-Intermediate, Intermediate, Upper Intermediate and Advanced.  Students will be placed in the appropriate level according to the results of their placement test and can move on to higher levels according to their progress. The placement test is held at the school on the first day and takes one hour to complete.

  • Period of operation: All year round

  • Duration of 1 Lesson: 45 minutes
  • Average number of students in class: Winter (January – May & September – December) 8 students
  • Average number of students in class: Summer (June, July & August) 10 students

Business English Group

English 16 - 99 years old

This course provides students with the quickest route to communicative competence in English and is organised around the professional tasks and work-related situations of busy executives wishing to improve their English language competency for business related activities.

Practical assignments will draw on the varied interests of the clients themselves and lessons will respect the sophisticated knowledge and expertise of the students, especially in areas such as leadership, innovation and human relationship. 

The key concepts of the course include topic-based situations that help to reinforce vocabulary, speaking, writing and social English. 

Our aim is to offer a flexible approach to the basic interaction patterns used by business people in their work.  Topic-based learning units will cover a wide range of business situations, such as using good commercial English in collecting information, drafting reports and preparing presentations, managing a job interview, writing business letters and e-mails, telephone conversations, decision making and problem solving.

GSE IELTS Prep Course

English 18 - 99 years old

IELTS has nowadays become the most important EFL exam for students learning English as a foreign language; whether for career advancement (work purposes) or as an admission prerequisite for a foreign university, the need to sit for an IELTS exam is increasing annually. The number of students taking the exam in Malta has also increased drastically throughout the last few years.  At Gateway School of English GSE we have also experienced an increase in the number of students choosing to take the IELTS exam preparation course and this is the reason why our IELTS classes are open every week all the year round.  So if you book an IELTS class at any time during the year, even for a week, you will be guaranteed the lessons from Monday to Friday.  We also guarantee small group tuition with maximum 8 students per class so that the teacher can focus on the individual needs of each and every student in the class.

There are no fixed start/finish dates for the IELTS classes and they are open every week all the year round. There is also no stipulated minimum or maximum number of weeks that you can book as this very much depends on the individual’s time available and the level of English of the student.

Club 50+ - GSE Malta

English 50 - 99 years old

The 50+ Course is an ideal choice for adults who are over fifty years of age wishing to improve their English while making the most of an enjoyable leisurely holiday in Malta.  The course is principally formatted around Conversational English practise; the emphasis on lexis and conversation, however, is organically linked to the history and culture of Mediterranean society.  Life in Malta is conducted in an English-speaking ambience that enhances the use of English throughout, be it in shops, banks, restaurants, theatres, cinemas, museums and hotels.  It is therefore quite natural for our 50+ students to socialize and participate in excursions, visits to historical places, museums and events such as theatrical performances or annual festivals that expand their knowledge of English while introducing them to the colourful history and Mediterranean life-style of Malta in general.

The programmes below include a supplementary full leisure/cultural programme of activities  (at an extra cost; activities can be bought individually and the price of each activity can be found in the price list) to show you the best of Malta while learning English with us.

Cancellation Policies

We apply the booking and cancellation conditions of the partner school. Below is an excerpt from the cancellation conditions.

There are no cancellation fees if the cancellation is received earlier than three weeks prior to arrival.
In the case of cancellations made less than three weeks prior to arrival there is a cancellation fee of 50% of the tuition and accommodation fees.
