The Institute of English Language Studies (IELS) was founded over 35 years ago as a joint venture between the FTI Group GmbH and the Mizzi Organisation.

With over 35 years of experience in teaching English, and as Malta's first English language school, we understand that travelling abroad to learn English is an important life experience for you, and we are committed to making it a great experience! Language courses at IELS

ELS is accredited by the Ministry of Education and is a founding member of the FELTOM as well as a full member of ALTO. IELS Ltd is affiliated to the University of Cambridge as an ESOL Teacher Training Centre and is the only school in Malta that offers both the Cambridge ESOL CELTA and DELTA teacher training courses, two of the most sought after and distinguished qualifications that an English language teacher can obtain.

Operating globally, IELS offers over 20 different types of English language courses and employs around 150 highly qualified teachers.

The school welcomes students from more than 40 different countries and has a modern school open all year round and a head office in Sliema, a summer centre for young learners, as well as a boutique school and residence in Gozo. IELS owns and operates the Day's Inn Hotel & Residence, a recently renovated three-star hotel in the heart of Sliema.

IELS offers various ancillary services to students, such as accommodation (including hotels, host families, apartments and hostels). Other services include transportation (transfers by taxi, coach and minibus), leisure (excursions, sports, guided tours, etc.), customer assistance, a dedicated 24-hour emergency call service, and internships.

IELS's Teachers

All our teachers are qualified according to Maltese law and many have further qualifications above the minimum legal requirement. They also meet the requirements of the relevant accrediting bodies – the EFL Monitoring Board of the Ministry of Education and the Federation of English Language Teaching Organizations of Malta (FELTOM).

Over and above these qualifications, our teachers are dedicated and enthusiastic about helping their students to progress and reach the level that is attainable during their stay.

Cambridge Exam Courses (FCE, CAE, CPE) are available in various levels: Upper intermediate/B2 (FCE), Advanced/C1 (CAE) and Proficiency/C2 (CPE).

Your teacher will give you the training and support that you need in order to pass your exam. Throughout the course you will extend your knowledge and use of grammar and vocabulary. You will also complete a number of practice tests to help you develop the skills you will need to be successful in your exam. Your teacher will also monitor your progress and give you feedback on your strengths and weaknesses to help you progress and achieve your goal. You should expect to do approximately two hours of homework each day.
 
You will need to complete an entrance test before starting the course in order to ensure that you take the course that is right for you.

The Day's Inn Hotel is an independent student residence owned by IELS, which offers excellent value accommodation close to the school. The residence, recently renovated and decorated by designers, is located in the heart of Sliema, in a pleasant side street, close to the main shopping and entertainment district, the seafront and the departure points for public transport, tourist buses and cruises. St Julian's, the popular nightlife district, is only 15 minutes away. The Residence welcomes students aged 18 and over.

It offers hotel rooms and studios. There are 54 hotel rooms and 45 studios, all with air conditioning and private facilities.

The hotel rooms each have one or 2 single beds, wardrobe, bedside table and television.
The studios are equipped with two single beds, a wardrobe, a desk, a bedside table, a TV and a kitchenette with fridge, kettle and microwave oven.

The Residence has a 24-hour reception service, ensuring the safety, comfort and convenience of our students. Next to the reception, there is a beautifully decorated lobby, equipped with free Wi-Fi and furnished with comfortable sofas and tables.

A fully equipped communal kitchen is available to all residents. During the summer months, students can enjoy a relaxing afternoon at the private rooftop swimming pool and the sun terrace, which offers a wonderful view of the sea.

Maltese people are well renowned for their warm hospitality and friendliness. When staying in a host home, you will get a unique opportunity to experience the Maltese way of life and become immersed in its rich culture and traditions. You will also have an opportunity to practise English you have learnt at school with your Hosts and their family members.

The IELS Accommodation team carefully selects our Host Homes and regular visits are made to them in order to ensure a high standard is retained. This is an unforgettable experience for those who want to really feel “at home”. Accommodation is offered in Single or Shared rooms, on half board, with breakfast and dinner included. Bathrooms are usually shared; however, a private bathroom option is also available in Executive Host Homes.

Lessons per week: 20 English lessons (45 minutes each)
Maximum class size: 15 students

We offer a minimum of 20 English lessons in bright airy classrooms. IELS has its own Young Learner course books which are targeted at students on short, vacation programmes; ensuring the lessons are communicative and topic based, while offering students the opportunity to communicate with their class-mates. Lessons, where applicable, relate to the afternoon and evening activities and excursions, helping students gain even more from their leisure programme.

On this programme our aim is to get young learners speaking as much as possible by focusing on communication skills. Lessons are specially planned with the material and activities, including projects, role plays and discussions to motivate and engage our young students. 

This programme also includes afternoon, evening and weekend activities.

Accommodations:
Students can choose this centrally located option to stay in whilst enjoying an IELS Vacation English Plus programme. 
Usually at a walking distance from school these residences offer shared air-conditioned rooms with 3-4 beds.

Cancellation Policies

We apply the booking and cancellation conditions of the partner school. Below is an excerpt from the cancellation conditions.

You may cancel your booking provided you do so by written notice to IELS, which it must receive not less than 14 days before the Start Date. In such an event, any fees you have paid will be refunded except for registration fees and one week’s tuition and (where applicable) accommodation fees (such fees being specified in the Price List).

If you cancel your booking less than 14 days before the Start Date, any refunds are entirely at IELS General Manager’s discretion. A full refund of all fees paid (less delivery charges) will be made in the event of visa refusal provided you send written notice to IELS and documentary evidence of such refusal. If a Course is terminated after the Start Date, or if you fail to present yourself at the school on the Start Date without having previously cancelled your Course, no refunds will be given on tuition and accommodation.
