The Institute of English Language Studies (IELS) was founded over 35 years ago as a joint venture between the FTI Group GmbH and the Mizzi Organisation.

Language courses at IELS

ELS is accredited by the Ministry of Education and is a founding member of the FELTOM as well as a full member of ALTO. IELS Ltd is affiliated to the University of Cambridge as an ESOL Teacher Training Centre and is the only school in Malta that offers both the Cambridge ESOL CELTA and DELTA teacher training courses, two of the most sought after and distinguished qualifications that an English language teacher can obtain.

Operating globally, IELS offers over 20 different types of English language courses and employs around 150 highly qualified teachers.

The school welcomes students from more than 40 different countries and has a modern school open all year round and a head office in Sliema, a summer centre for young learners, as well as a boutique school and residence in Gozo. IELS owns and operates the Day's Inn Hotel & Residence, a recently renovated three-star hotel in the heart of Sliema.

IELS offers various ancillary services to students, such as accommodation (including hotels, host families, apartments and hostels). Other services include transportation (transfers by taxi, coach and minibus), leisure (excursions, sports, guided tours, etc.), customer assistance, a dedicated 24-hour emergency call service, and internships.

IELS's Teachers

All our teachers are qualified according to Maltese law and many have further qualifications above the minimum legal requirement. They also meet the requirements of the relevant accrediting bodies – the EFL Monitoring Board of the Ministry of Education and the Federation of English Language Teaching Organizations of Malta (FELTOM).

Over and above these qualifications, our teachers are dedicated and enthusiastic about helping their students to progress and reach the level that is attainable during their stay.

The Day's Inn Hotel is an independent student residence owned by IELS, which offers excellent value accommodation close to the school. The residence, recently renovated and decorated by designers, is located in the heart of Sliema, in a pleasant side street, close to the main shopping and entertainment district, the seafront and the departure points for public transport, tourist buses and cruises. St Julian's, the popular nightlife district, is only 15 minutes away. The Residence welcomes students aged 18 and over.

It offers hotel rooms and studios. There are 54 hotel rooms and 45 studios, all with air conditioning and private facilities.

The hotel rooms each have one or 2 single beds, wardrobe, bedside table and television.
The studios are equipped with two single beds, a wardrobe, a desk, a bedside table, a TV and a kitchenette with fridge, kettle and microwave oven.

The Residence has a 24-hour reception service, ensuring the safety, comfort and convenience of our students. Next to the reception, there is a beautifully decorated lobby, equipped with free Wi-Fi and furnished with comfortable sofas and tables.

A fully equipped communal kitchen is available to all residents. During the summer months, students can enjoy a relaxing afternoon at the private rooftop swimming pool and the sun terrace, which offers a wonderful view of the sea.

Cancellation Policies

We apply the booking and cancellation conditions of the partner school. Below is an excerpt from the cancellation conditions.

You may cancel your booking provided you do so by written notice to IELS, which it must receive not less than 14 days before the Start Date. In such an event, any fees you have paid will be refunded except for registration fees and one week’s tuition and (where applicable) accommodation fees (such fees being specified in the Price List).

If you cancel your booking less than 14 days before the Start Date, any refunds are entirely at IELS General Manager’s discretion. A full refund of all fees paid (less delivery charges) will be made in the event of visa refusal provided you send written notice to IELS and documentary evidence of such refusal. If a Course is terminated after the Start Date, or if you fail to present yourself at the school on the Start Date without having previously cancelled your Course, no refunds will be given on tuition and accommodation.
