Notting Hill

How do I get to London to learn English?

You can travel to London for your English course by several means of transport.

The Eurostar

It's a high-speed train through the famous Channel Tunnel. Promotions are regularly offered at less than €100 for a return trip from major cities such as Paris, Lille, Lyon or Marseille.

By plane

Reserved for those in a hurry, it is generally the fastest but most expensive transport. However, promotions and low cost airlines sometimes allow you to find a cheaper flight than taking the Eurostar.

Bus

Ideal for small budgets, it is a more affordable means of transportation. Several bus companies offer a bus trip from France to London such as Ouibus, Eurolines, Flixbus... The journey will be longer than by plane or Eurostar, but will allow you to learn a few words of English before arriving in London.

Useful information for language travel in London

Before leaving on a language study trip to London, you should take into account some practical information so that you are not caught short on the spot and can therefore anticipate.

Adaptor for electrical plugs

Please note that to plug in your electrical appliances during a language study stay in England, you will need to bring a special adaptor for electrical sockets! All you need is one with 3 rectangular plugs.

Tips

Beware of surprises when you check out in restaurants! Service charges are not always included in the rates displayed by most London restaurants. Your bill is therefore not displayed inclusive of all taxes.

For the payment of the tip, please allow an extra charge equivalent to approximately 10 to 15% of the total amount of your bill. Check with restaurants or pubs to find out if the displayed price includes the tip, to avoid double payment of the tip...

Time zone

For your language stay in London, allow for a time difference of one hour!
It's 8pm in our house in France, Spain, Italy etc, it's 7pm in London.

Credit card/currency

London's currency is the pound sterling. So expect a currency exchange to turn your Euros into Pounds Sterling (GBP)

In order to save a little on the amount of commissions that exchange offices take, prefer a withdrawal from an ATM.

In addition, most shops in the world city accept Visa or MasterCard payment. You will therefore have no problem making payments during your language study stay in London.

We still advise you to open a multi-currency account with an online bank such as Revolut or N26, which allows you to pay directly in pounds sterling and avoid potential exchange fees.
